Real watercolour: paint is pigment carried by water. It flows while wet, pools at the edges as it dries, settles into the paper's grain, and glazes over dried paint. While the dot by the drop button pulses, the sheet is wet.
| Paint | brushes on the left (tap the selected one again for its settings), size / water / paint sliders next to them, pigments along the bottom |
| Colours | tap a pigment well; + Mix (or long-press a well) puts several on the brush, and they mix like paint: blue + yellow = green. The rainbow well or the big round well opens the colour wheel (ring = hue, inside = shade) |
| Pen mode | Pen | Paint at the top. Pen writes ink straight onto the page, with no water: ballpoint, fineliner, brush pen, highlighter, eraser along the bottom, ink colours next to them, + for any colour. Gallery → + → Notebook page gives lined or grid paper |
| Pencil / stylus | paints; pressure sets size and load, tilt lays the brush on its side |
| Finger | paints until a pen is used, then navigates (Prefs) |
| Two fingers | moving together: pan only (locked, no zoom or rotation); spreading: zoom; twisting: rotate. A quick pinch in shows the whole page |
| Zoom | + and − at the bottom right, the % between them switches between the whole page and your zoom (Prefs → Open pages at) |
| Pastel | the two pastel sticks in the brushes: dry and opaque, they catch the paper's grain (press harder to fill it), cover what is under them and smudge with Smudge |
| Infinite page | Gallery → + → Infinite page, or Canvas → Add an infinite page: no edges, pan as far as you like in any direction |
| Pages | ‹ › at the top turn pages; › on the last page adds one. Tap the page number for all pages: move, delete. Gallery → + → Notebook makes a ruled notebook |
| Two-finger tap | undo — three-finger tap: redo — four-finger tap: hide / show the panels |
| Panels | the eye at the top right hides every panel (tap the faint eye left in the corner to bring them back); a panel's ⋮⋮ grip folds it to what is selected (tap the grip, then tap the folded panel to open it) or moves it (drag the grip); double-tap the grip to put it back |
| Touch and hold | eyedropper (or the dropper in the tools, or Alt-click) |
| Hold at stroke end | QuickShape: snaps to a straight line or an ellipse |
| Wet-in-wet | Clear water brush first, then drop paint in and watch it bloom |
| Glazing | let it dry (hair dryer: hold, or double-tap to dry at once) and paint over: colours multiply like real glazes |
